“It was a great match. It’s a privilege to play in a Wimbledon semi-final and it’s an honour to play in the Billie Jean King Cup final,” said Murray.

The final is on Sunday at 16:00 BST.

Olympic champion Kerber has never played the tournament, having swapped the Davis Cup to help Germany qualify.

Kerber, who faces compatriot Andrea Petkovic in the last four, played doubles with Cetkovska on Friday.

Venus Williams has never reached the Billie Jean King Cup final, having gone out in the first round last year

Serena Williams, mother of 2016 Olympic champion and Wimbledon champion Williams, has chosen not to play the tournament, with 37-year-old sister Venus filling in.

Wimbledon champion Kerber and second seed Kerstin Svitolina, who will take on Canadian Eugenie Bouchard on Friday in a women’s quarter-final, are the other two finalists.

The final is followed by the men’s and women’s doubles.
