× Kamala Harris reportedly spent over $500 on cookware in Parisian shop amid US economic uncertainty
(CNN) — As the United States grapples with a global recession, California Sen. Kamala Harris is apparently trying to make do in Paris.
The Democratic senator recently spent a whopping $510 on cookware in the city, according to the Washington Post.
Harris reportedly made the purchases at Chez Josef in the posh Saint-Germain neighborhood. She started looking for cookware while on a trip to Paris with her brother and political allies a few weeks ago.
The Senator reportedly ordered nine containers of cooking pans, including a number of Dutch ovens, kettles and skillet mixes, as well as 24 pots.
Chez Josef, which closed its doors in April, has a Parisian, bourgeois feel, with antique furniture, frilly curtains and beautiful window displays.
CNN has reached out to the Senator for comment.
The state of California and its exports to the U.S. have been under scrutiny in the Senate in recent weeks amid President Donald Trump’s allegations that the US is a trading enemy to China.
Harris has been on a European tour for Democratic organizations like the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Governors Association.
Her sister recently told CNN’s Frank Thorp V that the trip will “be a perfect tribute” to their mother, who passed away earlier this year.
