The black-tie gala raised funds for the Motion Picture and Television Fund
It was a night of heavy hearts: Gwen Stefani and Nicole Kidman, presenting awards at the red carpet annual fund-raising dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel. Stefani, who was dressed to the nines in a long, sheath-style dress, shared an anecdote about her beginnings in showbusiness while at the dinner (Loretta Devine, Steven Tyler and the cast of The Toys That Made Us, Sheryl Crow and Darren Criss) all sat in a dark room sharing stories about how much they still love the industry.
Blake Shelton performed for the audience, which included Hollywood insiders, cast members of more recent films, and members of the entertainment industry who still rely on the MPTF, an organisation dedicated to providing care and support to the next generation of the entertainment industry, including actors, directors, writers, producers, sound technicians, medical professionals and costume designers.

Other Hollywood favorites who were in attendance included Hugh Jackman, Luke Wilson, Jerry Bruckheimer, Lena Dunham, Jessica Chastain, Michael Douglas, Michael Keaton, Meg Ryan, Susan Sarandon, and Jackie Chan.
Jen Spector, Meryl Streep’s publicist, said: “I think it’s this incredibly emotional event. We have a new MPTF president [former Entertainment attorney Bob Beitcher] and new officials – there’s just so much change taking place. This dinner is a really unique time to be able to honour and thank the staff and thank the people who are working on behalf of our friends.
“The whole population of the entertainment industry today is much more focused on volunteerism and being very philanthropic – I think it’s changed. It’s in everybody’s blood.”
