With Obama and Santos as guest anchoring this week, CNN en Español tells Colombia’s story in primetime

CNN en Español is shining a light on Colombia this week with a new special series, Conversaciones Contemporánicas De España, airing Monday, October 1 and Thursday, October 4. Anchored by CNN’s in-house deputy chief international correspondent Isaac Lee, the four-part series explores the history, culture and identity of the country as well as the everyday lives of its population. The series also marks the first time both former Colombian president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Alvaro Uribe and former president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fernando Santos are guest anchoring on the same program.

Featuring interviews and reports with key players, including President Alvaro Uribe, President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos, former president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fernando Santos, and Nobel laureate Rigoberta Menchú Tum, as well as providing a unique insight into Colombian culture, the series offers interviews and interviews with leading artists, actors, musicians, athletes, political leaders, authors, scientists, journalists, documentary subjects, Mexican elites, philosophers, humorists, movers and shakers, and the people of Mexico. CNN en Español will also explore Colombians’ feelings toward women and their misconceptions about gender roles.

For more than 35 years, CNN en Español has covered the world’s toughest stories and has become one of the most influential and visible news brands in Spanish-speaking Latin America. News anchor Julia Aimee López, whose expertise on the Latin American region began in her native Mexico where she worked as an anchor for Televisa, joined CNN en Español as general assignment reporter in the spring of 2009. Since joining the network, López has reported on breaking news and sought out compelling information from across the region and beyond.
